Lions International
“ This year, I am challenging every club to share those successful efforts that have improved life in their communities and given assistance and hope to those most in need. Rest assured that sharing success through public relations in an ongoing process, one that will raise your level of public visibility and bring about greater support for the entire range of your activities.”

- Clement F. Kusiac, President, The International Assoc. of Lions Clubs

President’s Message
We had a good meeting with Lion Jane Huber explaining where each part of our White Cane funds go. Our goal is a minimum of $80 per member.

Lion Jane also shared some humor from her teaching of young students. We appreciate her attendance from Greensboro despite predictions of bad weather. Lion Jane gave special recognition to Lion Jonathan Wishon for his excellent job as last year's White Cane Chair.

We also had several sharp participants in a Presidents quiz. We discussed having 20/20 vision for seeing the needs of those around us. Several members are attending the Mid-Winter Convention in Greensboro. We turned in $976 in Camp Dogwood tickets sales so far. Thanks Lion Ron Gantt for spearheading this.

Hopefully our Valentines Banquet will be enjoyable with entertainment by the Davie High Choral group. Many thanks to Elaine Snow and her group for their willingness to perform. Let's enjoy the night; remember the romance and fun of the holiday.

Now let's turn on the jets for a good White Cane Auction (date to be announced) and some new members.

Please be sure all calendar and fruit monies are in.

Orientation:
In the year 2004-2005, the Club had five new members to join.

? Two were rejoiners.
? One is brand new.

Time to have orientation and get these members “LIONIZED” the Mocksville way. (Note: Editor wants a patent on this word too.) In your dreams, George K!!! ?

The White Canes
North Carolina is the only state whose Lions organization does not charge recipients for a White Cane. That was 1,555 canes in 2003. Bet you didn’t know that!

Main Line wonders what other Lions superlatives there are in North Carolina.

• All Zone 4 Clubs were present:

Main Line Going to Press Early
Usually, we go to press LATE. We try to get the last minute scoops. However, pressing matters are upon the staff this edition. Next issue will contain Mid-Winter reports, Cabinet Meeting news, and BP/BS screening report.

South Asia Tsunami Disaster 2004 Fund

If Lions wish to contribute to LCIF for South Asia Tsunami relief, send checks to LCIF designated as such. Already, LCIF and local Lions in those countries involved are providing funds, materials, and assistance where needed. Mocksville Lions Club has sent $320 to the Fund.

Does Any Useful Knowledge Come From History?
About 10 years ago, Lion’s sold raffle tickets on a portable generator made approximately $1,000. Who was President…?

About 15-18 years ago, Lion’s sold raffle tickets on a vacation cruise (with lots of trimmings). It made the most money in any refund-raising project ever (in our club). Who was president…?

(Don’t look for answers in newsletter ‘cause we don’t know; but we would like to know.)

Walking to Better Health
Walk your way to a healthy mind and body—no matter what your age, fitness level, or physical conditions. Walking, and exercise of all types, is the magic treatment that costs no money and brings great rewards:

• Re-energize your mind and body.
• Increase your energy and endurance.
• Lower your blood sugar.
• Lose weight and burn fat.
• Lower your risk of cancer.
• Prevent Diabetes, heart attacks, and strokes.
• Reduce your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and obesity.
• Help you sleep better.

So, if you are able to walk—get up and WALK. Taking steps to walk daily rewards you in thousands of ways (research keeps finding new ones), but you can sum them all up this way: Walking makes you…

Stronger, leaner, calmer, happier, and younger.

Walking does more for you than any magic pill that will ever be invented. And—it’s free!

-Making a Difference in Diabetes, Nov. 2004

A Lions Prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, as our members continue to serve the visually and hearing impaired everywhere, we ask that you will be merciful in all that we do. We also pray that you will continue to lead, guide and direct us as we travel throughout this old earth. Be with us always, in Jesus name we pray,
Amen
