MISSION STATEMENT OF MOCKSVILLE LIONS -The LIONS Club of Mocksville is a service organization providing resources to the visually and hearing impaired in Davie County, North Carolina.
************************************************************************************************************
Idea: Just Ask! As basic as it sounds, this is really the key to all membership recruitment efforts. If you do not ask a prospective member if she is interested in LIONS, you are not letting the prospect make the decision – you are making it for her. -- The LION, February 2004

WE GOT WORK TO DO! – YES. There is more to consider about White Cane. Through February 2004 Mocksville Club has served: 18 children for vision care 15 adults for vision care 9 adults for hearing care
We have contributed $2,828.50 to White Cane. NCLF pays half of costs of above services. So far, then, NCLF is paying more than we have contributed. NCLF says that funds might be exhausted by April or May. Our club and 45 other clubs in our District and 384 Clubs in our State need to put out more effort in White Cane fundraising to prevent the foundation and our Club from drawing from reserves. When we do this, then we can ROAR!
P.S. Would each LION consider a personal contribution? Lion G.K.

MOCKSVILLE LIONS GLUCOSE SCREENING CLINIC – On February 5, 2004, the Board of Directors approved the founding of a Diabetic Screening Clinic open to anyone. The clinic will be held the last Friday of each month beginning March 26. Clinic hours are 9:00am to 12noon. A Storehouse of Jesus is providing space for the clinic. A qualified laboratory technician has volunteered to perform the tests. A LION Club member will be needed to help as host/hostess and secretary. If we have persons helping who are qualified to measure blood pressure, we will add it to the service.
DIABETIC EYE CARE CLINIC – A Storehouse for Jesus has approved the founding of a Diabetic Eye Care Clinic as part of the Free Medical/Dental/Pharmacy Clinic Missions. This was presented to the Storehouse by the LIONS. Our Club has approved helping in this endeavor. Four optometrists and one ophthalmologist have volunteered to serve in the Eye Clinic. Opening date in March or April 2004 is considered.
SUMMER SPORTS & EYE CARE – “Each year, approximately 100,000 sports-related eye injuries occur. One-third of these are to children under the age of 16. The sports most commonly associated with eye injuries at any age are baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, tennis, squash and racquetball. In children’s baseball leagues and amateur hockey leagues in which protective eyewear have been mandated, eye injuries have been reduced by 90%. Experts recommend that young athletes wear polycarbonate lenses which are found in many types of protective eyewear. They are 20 times stronger than regular lenses. These lenses are made to withstand a projectile or ball traveling at 90 mph. Your Eye Care Professional can help you find a pair that’s right for you.” -- Advisor (Acuvue Eye Health)

-- Coach John Wooden“ If what you have done yesterday still looks big to you. You haven’t done much today.” -- Coach Mike Krzyzewski
A LION’S PRAYER – Lord, take our minds and think through them; take our lips and speak through them; take our hearts and set them on fire with the desire to continue to help the visually challenged and the hearing impaired; in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
